Inzaghi does not feel the result was an accurate reflection of his side’s performance against Gian Piero Gasperini’s men.
Lazio went 3-0 down before halftime through goals from Robin Gorsens, Hans Hateboer and Alejandro Gomez.
The Aquile were handed a lifeline when Felipe Caicedo pulled one back twelve minutes after the break, but Gomez extended the visitors’ lead four minutes later to take the game beyond Inzaghi’s men.
The Italian coach insisted that Lazio played very well but failed to be decisive when it mattered.
“The lads played their game, we just failed to step up in the decisive moments of the match,” Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia after the game.
“We wasted a chance on 0-0 and another when we were two down, without forgetting the Ciro Immobile opportunity that hit the side-netting.
“The 4-1 result is not a fair reflection of the game, as Lazio had 10 attempts on goal and scored once, whereas Atalanta scored four out of five.”
Next up for Inzaghi and Lazio is a daunting task on Sunday, when they welcome Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan to the Stadio Olimpico.
