Atletico Madrid confirmed the acquisition of Suarez for a fee around £5.5m after the 33-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements at the Camp Nou following the arrival of Ronald Koeman as new Barcelona head coach.
Suarez joined the Catalans from English side Liverpool in the summer of 2014, and has left the Blaugrana as one of their most decorated players.
During his six-year stay in Barcelona, the former Ajax man won almost everything in club football which includes four La Liga titles and one Champions League trophy.
On a personal level, the Uruguayuan also won the Pichichi and European Golden Boot during the 2015/2016 season.
He scored 198 goals and provided 109 assists in 283 games in all competitions, by doing so Suarez became the third highest scorer in Barcelona’s enormous history.
Bartomeu has vowed to organize a testimonial match to honour Suarez, once the fans are allowed to return to the stands.
“I’d like to put on a testimonial when we can have fans back again so that you can say goodbye,” Bartomeu said via Marca.
“I want to say how much you have brought us, in terms of your character, fighting spirit, and winning mentality. On behalf of all Barcelona fans, I want to thank you for the last six years.
“They have been unforgettable times, and I hope that when you leave here you continue to be happy in your personal and professional life Barcelona will always be your home.”
