Neymar Receives Two-Game Ban For Le Classique Red Card

Neymar has been slapped with a two-game ban by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) for his red card in last Sunday’s tempestuous Le Classique game between Paris Saint Germain and Olympique Marseille at the Parc des Princes.

The Ligue 1 game between Thomas Tuchel and Andre Villas-Boas’ side ended 1-0 in favour of the visitors, with Florian Thauvin’s 31st minute effort proving crucial to secure Marseille victory over PSG for the first time in 20 games.

Neymar was one of five players sent off in the dying embers of the game after tensions boiled over following a melee.

The fiery game ended with 14 yellow cards dished out to both sets of players while Marseille’s Jordan Amavi and Dario Benedetto as well as PSG’s Leandro Paredes and Layvin Kurzawa were also dismissed.

Neymar made it clear to the fourth official on his way to the tunnel that he had been racially abused by Gonzalez and tweeted afterwards that his only regret was not hitting the Spaniard in the face, having struck him on the back of the head before being sent off.

Gonzalez denied Neymar’s accusations but the LFP have opened investigations into the issue.

Paredes has also been hit with a two-game ban while teammate Kurzawa has been suspended for the next six games.

The Marseille duo of Benedetto and Amavi have been suspended for one and three games respectively.

PSG’s Angel di Maria has also been summoned to the LFP’s disciplinary committee meeting on September 23 following allegations he spat at Gonzalez during the game.
