Gomes came through the youth ranks of Manchester United but declined to extend his stay at Old Trafford following the expiration of his contract this summer, leaving for Lille on a free transfer in search of regular first team action.
The 19-year-old attacking midfielder made six appearances in all competitions for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men in the 2019/2020 season.
“We are very happy to welcome Angel Gomes who comes free from Manchester United,” Lille CEO Marc Ingla said. “Angel represents one of the greatest international prospects in his position.
“He is a very intelligent player in his decision making, technical, agile, but also endowed with strong leadership abilities, as shown by captaining England’s Under-20 side.
"He is still young but has immense talent and potential. We are very happy to have convinced him to join LOSC.”
Gomes will have to wait some time for his Lille debut as he will spend next season on loan at Boavista, who finished 12th in the Portuguese top flight last season.
Gomes was captain when England won the FIFA under-17 World Cup in India three years ago.
