In the battle of the last two champions before Manchester City’s dominance in the last two years, Chelsea bossed the first half of the game and should have gone ahead further while Leicester took the game by the scruff of the neck in the second and probably should have done better with their half chances to take all three points.
Chelsea made their intentions known in the opening minute when a long floated ball into the Leicester penalty area was beautifully chested down by Olivier Giroud for Pedro but the Spaniard’s volley could only rattle the side-netting.
The hosts were not to be denied in the 7th minute though as Wilfried Ndidi was caught napping on the ball by Mason Mount in his own area, and the 20-year-old English youngster slotted the ball into the left bottom corner of Kasper Schmeichel’s goal.
Chelsea nearly doubled their lead in the 27th minute thanks to some neat one-touch passing involving Olivier Giroud, who back-heeled the ball into the path of N’golo Kante but the Frenchman’s effort was deflected wide by a last ditch challenge from Christian Fuchs.
Wilfred Ndidi atoned for his earlier error which gifted Chelsea the opener when he rose highest to head home Leicester City’s equalizer from a corner unchallenged in the 66th minute.
As Chelsea pressed for the winner, they left gaps at the back which was almost exploited by the Foxes with the best chance falling the way of James Maddison but he skewed his effort wide in the penalty box after coming through a couple of challenges with just 15 minutes to play.
