The Blues have conceded 44 goals in 32 league matches this season - the worst among the traditional top six teams in the division.
Frank Lampard’s men fell to a catastrophic defeat on Wednesday night, when they were outmuscled by David Moyes’ West Ham United.
The Londoners are already making a healthy preparations towards next season, having already secured the services of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.
Chelsea have also been linked with the likes of Dayot Upamecano, Nathan Ake, Ben Chilwell and Ajax’s Nicolas Tagliafico.
However, Hoddle, who played and managed Chelsea at some time in his distinguished career, has urged Lampard to find a defender who can command and organize the team just like legendary defender Terry.
“He’s got to look at, “How do we get a John Terry,” the 62-year-old said.
“Which isn’t easy, or an experienced player in there who needs to defend properly but also organize people.”
“They need to be organized when they’re on the attack with the ball.”
“Someone needs to be pulling people around and they’ll cut half the goals they’re conceding with a player like that but they’re not easy to come by either.”
