Lewandowski Voted Bundesliga Player Of The Season

Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski has been voted as the Bundesliga player of the season.

Lewandowski is enjoying the most prolific campaign of his career, with 48 goals netted across all competitions, including 33 in the German top flight and 11 in the UEFA Champions League.

The Poland international became the first player to score in 11 consecutive league games earlier on in the campaign.

He received more than 50 percent of the total votes cast.

Borussia Dortmund’s English winger Jadon Sancho came second in the voting while Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz placed third.

Also in the running for the award were Timo Werner, Amine Harit, Erling Haaland and Serge Gnabry.

Lewandowski has the chance to add to his tally in Bayern Munich’s final league game of the season against Wolfsburg on Saturday.

The 31-year-old is on course to winning the Bundesliga golden boot for the fourth time in five seasons.

Bayern Munich have already won their eighth straight league title and they still have the chance to add the DFB-Pokal and UEFA Champions League to their list of honours this season.

Hansi Flick’s men will meet Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB-Pokal final next week while they are favourites to advance to the quarterfinals of the Champions League as they currently lead Chelsea 3-0 after the first leg, with the second leg still to be played.
