Ferdinand Blasts Dybala For Snubbing Manchester United

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has slammed Juventus forward Paulo Dybala for snubbing a move to Old Trafford in the summer transfer window.

Towards the end of the England transfer window, reports emerged that Manchester United were considering a swap deal with the Italian champions involving Romelu Lukaku and Dybala, but the deal never materialized.

Lukaku ultimately left for Inter Milan on transfer deadline day in deal worth £74m while Dybala stayed put at Juventus as Manchester United failed to add to their three summer purchases.

Issues surrounding Dybala’s wage demands and image rights served as stumbling blocks in a deal being done, and Ferdinand, who won six Premier League in twelve years at Manchester United, has called out the Argentine over his decision.

"A lot of players have declined coming to Manchester United in recent years," Ferdinand told the Daily Star. "They've chosen somewhere else.

"But I don't know how Dybala had the audacity to turn them down when he's on the bench at Juventus. He needs to start playing some football.

"Maybe he's thinking: 'I want to be in the Champions League or I'll sit on the bench. I'd rather do that than play at Man Utd.'

"Well, I'm happy he didn't come because you haven't got the right minerals that I want in a Manchester United player.

"I want someone who wants to come and thinks, 'Manchester United need to get back to being a top team and I want to be the catalyst'. That's the type of person you want to come through the door."

Manchester United, who will be playing Europa League football this season, did well without Dybala in their opening game of the season, dismissing Chelsea 4-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday.
