The Frenchman believes the North Londoners have left themselves with no other option but to try and sell Aubameyang rather than letting him go for free.
The Gabon international’s contract expires at the end of next season and he is already being linked with top European clubs like Barcelona, Inter Milan and Manchester United.
Aubameyang has been Arsenal’s key man in front of goal as he has scored 61 goals in 97 appearances since he joined the Premier League side from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018.
Mikel Arteta has stated that he wants to keep his captain but Aliadiere says the former Ac Milan man should be sold - even if it is for a cut-price fee – if he does not sign a new deal this summer.
“They've got to sell him, 100 per cent,” the 37-year-old told Goal.
“Arsenal can’t keep losing players on a free. To be honest, I still can’t believe we’ve again got a top player, our captain, going into the summer only having one year left on his contract.”
“For me, it has to be sorted when he gets to two years. Last summer he should have signed a deal or been sold. Because when you get down to one year left, in a player’s mind there is a difference.”
“If I was Aubameyang and I knew I only had one year left, I would sacrifice one year of my career to go on a free and get paid a ridiculous amount of money and have all the clubs in the world chasing me. Who wouldn’t?”
Aliadiere played for Arsenal for six years and was part of the Gunners team that won the 2003/2004 league title without losing a game.
