Felix scored one and set up another in the International Champions Cup game against the Italian champions as Atletico Madrid made it five wins from five pre-season games going into next week’s Spanish La Liga opening fixtures.
Felix became the fourth most expensive signing in football history when he completed a £116m move from Benfica to the Rojiblancos in the off-season.
The 19-year-old has huge pressure on his shoulders to justify his enormous price tag and he has also been handed the number 7 jersey previously worn by Antoine Griezmann, who has left to join Spanish champions Barcelona.
"Joao has many capabilities. He is adapting very quickly to what the team needs," the Atletico coach told a news conference.
"He has a vision that allows him to adapt to many positions and is in a process of adaptation and the best thing he has is that, I said from the first day, his desire to learn.
"He wants to learn and with that the adaptation process will be shorter. Talent is innate, but the desire to learn is the shortest path that a player has to perform."
Felix’s potential has already led comparisons with his countryman and five-time Ballon d’or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo, and was part of the Portugal squad that recently won the inaugural UEFA Nations League.
Atletico Madrid open their La Liga campaign with a home game against Getafe next week.
