The Barcelona forward believes the referee's decisions in the game changed the results for the night.
Brazil defeated Argentina 2-0 with goals coming from Gabriel Jesus in the 18th minute and Roberto Firmino’s 71st decider at the Belo Horizonte.
Messi, who had no issues with the first goal scored by Gabriel Jesus was angry the referee should have awarded Argentina two penalties, but turned a blind eye to those incidents.
Aiming a dig at the match officials, Messi revealed the Selecao were not better than the La Albiceleste, but poor decisions by the officials helped them porgressed to the next stage.
"They were not better than us. They found the net early and the second goal came from a penalty [to Aguero] they didn't award," Messi told reporters.
"They [the officials] had booked a lot of bulls***, but they didn't even check the VAR, that's incredible.
"That happened all over the game. At the first glance of contact, they ruled in their [Brazil's] favour and this kind of bulls*** distracted us from the game.
“There is no excuses for us, but we need to review this, analyse it and let's hope CONMEBOL does something about it.”
Having been furious with the officiating of the game, Messi hailed the Argentina team for their superb performance.
“I think we played a great game. We made a great effort and they were not superior to us," he said
“If I have to help from somewhere, I'm going to do it. I felt very good with this group."
Brazil will now wait on the results of Wednesday’s clash between Chile and Peru as they will host the winner of that tie.
