Henderson Earns Gerrard’s Praise For Masterminding #PlayersTogether Initiative

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has lauded Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson for the part he played in helping set up a charity fund for UK’s National Health Service during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Henderson is the brain behind the #PlayersTogether initiative which will see Premier League players donate to NHS charities across the UK.

The Liverpool captain earned widespread acclaim for his part in the initiative especially when it came at a time when Premier League players were under pressure to part with 30 percent of their salaries during the pandemic.

Henderson joined Liverpool from Sunderland in the summer of 2011 and played alongside Gerrard for four years, taking over the captain’s armband when the iconic midfielder departed for LA Galaxy in 2015.

Having seen Henderson’s development first hand from his early Liverpool days, Gerrard has been left impressed by his successor’s maturity over the years.

"I remember he came into Liverpool as a shy lad from Sunderland and his family asked me to keep an eye on him and look after him," Gerrard told Sky Sports' The Football Show.

"He's a very selfless person, on and off the pitch. He was a dream to play with because of his energy. I'm certainly one who's always sung his praises because I appreciate the job he did in the team.

"I think he's got better and better from a football point of view but, as a person, I think what he's done over the last couple of weeks sums the human being up.

"He's a fantastic man and he's become a top-class midfielder. Everything he earns in the game and every accolade he gets he absolutely deserves it. He's a role model to a lot of young kids."

Before the suspension of the league, Henderson was on course to leading Liverpool to their first league title in three decades.
