Marcello Lippi Wants Serie A To Be Completed

Italy icon Marcello Lippi believes the Serie A season should be completed even if it is behind closed doors once the virus is arrested.

All sporting related activities have been halted in Italy, including Serie A since the second week of March following the rapid spread of Covid-19 across country.
Despite having more than 147,000 cases and over 18,000 deaths associated with coronavirus per media reports on April 10, Lippi believes the current season should not be truncated.

Despite having more than 147,000 cases and over 18,000 deaths associated with coronavirus per media reports on April 10, Lippi believes the current season should not be truncated.

“Today there are no conditions for playing football and I believe there still won’t be in a month’s time,” the 71-year-old told Sky Italia.

“But when this great danger is averted, I believe the season should be finished, even if it’s behind closed doors.”

“It’s not nice to play without fans, but at least watching games on television is still something.

“I’m against extraordinary assignments of titles and relegations. The season must end on the field ".

“This situation is getting long, too long, now and moments of great economic difficulty are emerging, especially for certain groups of people.”

“In China they’ve won this battle against the virus with great rigor, especially in Wuhan, and they’ve been able to reopen the entire area and restart operations.”

Lippi has been out of management since resigning as China head coach last Novemeber. The former Italy manager was asked if he could consider a third stint with the Azzurri.

He added: “I’ve already done that. I no longer intend to coach a club team. Maybe in a few months, when I realise that I no longer want to stay at home, with a national team not too far away, I could get back into a dugout.

“But, in the meantime, we hope that this virus stops killing people. After that, we’ll see.”
