After spending three years with the Catalans, Cillessen, who used to be a backup for German shot-stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, completed his €35 million move to Valencia in June.
Cillessen, in last season, featured just 12 times in all competitions for the Spanish LaLiga champions.
Barcelona recruited the Dutch goalkeeper from Eredivisie giants Ajax in 2016 for an initial €13 million transfer fee plus another €2 million in add-ons, having signed a five-year contract with the club.
But failing to secure a permanent first-team place, the 30-year old is tired of watching his side play from the bench and believes his decision to join Los Ches is never a step back in his career.
“I have not had problems with Barcelona or with any team. For me, the most important thing is to play. It's the only reason I'm here," Cillessen told Marca.
“For me to come to Valencia is not a step back. Between being on the bench of Barcelona or playing at Valencia, playing at Valencia is much better. It is easy. It is not a step back.
“When I arrived at Barcelona, Ter Stegen was on a different level than now. And after three years he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
“I think we both improved, but it was time for me to leave."
Following the departure of Neto to Barcelona, Cillessen will now enjoy more first-team opportunities, a status he has been waiting for as he becomes the first-choice goalkeeper at the Mestalla Stadium.
