No Team Will Want To Play Liverpool In The Champions League Last 16, Says Andy Robertson

Liverpool fullback Andrew Robertson believes every team will try to avoid facing them in the Champions League knockout phase because of their pedigree in Europe.

The Reds have reached three European finals since German tactician Jurgen Klopp took over in October 2015, starting with the Europa League final against Sevilla in 2016.

Klopp’s men eventually won the Champions League early this year against Tottenham Hotspur after suffering a 3-1 final defeat to Real Madrid a season before in Kiev.

Liverpool booked their place for the next round of the Champions League as group winners after beating Red Bull Salzburg 2-0 on Tuesday.

The draw for the last 16 takes place at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland on Monday and Robertson insists no team will be happy to face the champions.

"We respect every opponent we play but we know the way we have done things in the last two years and nobody wants to play against us and that is clear - but it is up to us to keep proving that," said the 25-year-old.

"We cannot rely on that and we need to keep proving why people don't want to play against us but, so far, we have done that.”

"We will wait for the draw and see who we get in the last 16. We know it will be tough regardless but we look forward to the challenge as we want to go far in this tournament again."

The former Hull City defender added: "That is the atmosphere we have created in the last two years, a team which has been to the final twice and has obviously lost one and won one and we are respected in this tournament."

"Maybe the first season when we went to the final, I don't think we were really respected until maybe after the quarter-final when we went to Porto and washed them away (winning 5-0 in Portugal).”
