Tottenham Players To Reimburse Fans Who Travelled To Newcastle Game

Tottenham Hotspurs players have decided to reimburse fans who made the trip to Saint James' Park to watch their 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Newcastle United on Sunday.

Spurs were humiliated on a chastening afternoon, falling behind 5-0 before the 21st minute mark.

Interim manager Cristian Stellini lost his job the following day as a result, with Ryan Mason placed in temporary charge until a permanent replacement is found.

Tottenham have fallen outside the top four places after losing their last two matches and their next two games are against Manchester United and Liverpool.

In the meantime, the club's players have accepted their performance against Newcastle was unacceptable and will paying back to the fans the costs of their matchday tickets.

"As a squad, we understand your frustration, your anger. It wasn't good enough," the statement read.

"We know words aren't enough in situations like this but, believe us, a defeat like this hurts. We appreciate your support, home and away, and with this in mind we would like to reimburse fans with the cost of their match tickets from St James' Park.

"We know this does not change what happened on Sunday and we will give everything to put things right against Manchester United on Thursday when, again, your support will mean everything to us. Together – and only together – can we move things forward."
