EPL Round Up: Brentford Smash Man Utd For Four, Man City Go Top With Bournemouth Win

Manchester United suffered a shocking 4-0 loss at Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday while there were wins for Arsenal and Manchester City.

The day's action got underway at Villa Park in the battle between two heralded former England midfielders as Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa hosted Frank Lampard's Everton.

It was Gerrard who got the better of Lampard, with Danny Ings and Emiliano Buendia scoring for the home side to render Lucas Digne's own goal a mere consolation.

Newcastle United took a creditable point at Brighton and Hove Albion in a goalless draw while Fulham were left to rue a late missed penalty from Aleksandar Mitrovic in another scoreless encounter against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux Stadium.

Erling Haaland was not among the scorers for Manchester City even though the champions put four unanswered goals past Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium. Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden and a Jefferson Lerma own goal did the damage for Pep Guardiola's side.

Southampton came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Leeds United at the Saint Mary's stadium. Rodrigo struck twice for the visitors but Joe Aribo and Kyle Walker-Peters responded for the hosts.

Arsenal continued their impressive start to the season by beating Leicester City 4-2 at home. Gabriel Jesus struck twice while Gabriel Martinelli and Granit Xhaka scored the others. William Saliba put through his own net and James Maddison added a second for the Foxes.

The last game of the day ended with Brentford beating Manchester United 4-0 at home, with all four goals coming in the opening 35 minutes.

Manchester United are now bottom of the league after starting the season with back-to-back defeats.
