In-Demand Nkunku Pens RB Leipzig Extension Until 2026

In-Demand Nkunku Pens RB Leipzig Extension Until 2026

In-demand RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku has signed a new contract at the club until the summer of 2026.

Nkunku's previous deal at the Red Bull Arena was set to expire in the summer of 2024 and he had started attracting interest from the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and former employers Paris Saint Germain.

The 24-year-old is coming off the back of the most impressive season of his career to date after scoring 35 goals and laying on 14 assists for his teammates across 52 appearances in the 2021/2022 campaign.

Nkunku's exploits saw him win the Bundesliga player of the season while winning the first of his six France national team caps in March.

Nkunku was also on the scoresheet when Leipzig beat Freiburg 2-1 to win the DFB-Pokal back in May.

“I’m pleased to continue wearing the RB Leipzig shirt,” Nkunku told the club’s official website.

“After our great achievement in winning the DFB-Pokal, it remained clear that my story here isn’t over yet – we want more!

“I was really impressed with the club’s efforts to keep me, so a big thanks goes to those responsible for the trust in me and especially to Oliver Mintzlaff, with whom I was always in close contact.

“RB Leipzig have made a name for themselves on the international stage in recent years and have shown time and again that we can compete for titles. We want to build on that going forward and go one step further.”

Leipzig technical director Christopher Vivell added: “We're proud and happy to have been able to keep hold of one of the best players in the world at the moment."

"There are only a few players who can match the speed, flair and mentality that Christo possesses.

"In addition to that comes his incredible goal involvements this season. Christo has developed into one of the Bundesliga's best players at Leipzig and has also become a regular with the France national team. This success story is something that we want to continue writing together."
