Man United Vs Liverpool Is A Massive Game, Says Solskjaer

Manchester United will be entertaining bitterest rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday and head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says the game does not need any external hype due to its history.

Liverpool and Manchester United are two of the most storied teams in England, having shared 39 league titles between them.

Liverpool had been the most successful team in the English top flight until the turn of the century when United leapfrogged them thanks to the dynasty built by Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Red Devils have not been the same since Ferguson stepped down as head coach in 2013, and the English power have moved away from Old Trafford.

Liverpool together with United’s local rivals Manchester City have been the best teams in England in recent seasons.

Manchester United remain one of the fabrics of English football despite not winning the league since the 2012/2013 season.

Jurgen Klopp will be taking his high flying Reds to Manchester to face Solskjaer’s kaleidoscopic side and the Norwegian coach said it will always be a massive game when the Merseyside-based club come to town.

"It is a fact that the history, rivalry and all the trophies make it a massive game,” he said in his press conference on Friday.

"Being a Man United player, given the honour and responsibility to wear the shirt against Liverpool, you give everything you have.

"It is a massive game. It doesn’t need bigging up. The performance needs to consist of 90-plus minutes of attacking and defending.

"Liverpool are on a great run, they have some individuals skills you can’t defend against. It takes everything to get results against the best teams in Europe and Liverpool are one of those we are chasing. We are striving to go past them."
