Southampton To Pacify Fans By Donating Wages To Charity After 9-0 Leicester Loss

Players and Coaching staff from relegation-threatened Premier League side Southampton have decided to donate a day’s wages to charity in order to appease the club’s supporters following last Friday’s record-equaling 9-0 defeat at home to Leicester City.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side lost defender Ryan Bertrand early to a straight red card and crumbled as Ayoze Perez and Jamie Vardy helped themselves to hat-tricks while Ben Chilwell, Youri Tielemans and James Maddison all got themselves on the scoresheet for the visitors.

Hasenhuttl apologised to the club’s fans afterwards after the defeat left the Saints third from bottom with just two wins from ten games.

Southampton have now gone an extra mile to pacify supporters after first team players and coaching staff agreed to donate Friday’s wages to the club’s charity foundation.

A statement read: "Southampton Football Club’s first-team players and coaching staff have announced they will be donating their wages from last Friday to Saints Foundation.

"The squad has been in at Staplewood Campus throughout the weekend, working on putting things right for the club’s supporters.

"As the first step towards that, the group has decided that they wish to donate their wages from the day of the Leicester game to Saints Foundation, in order to help the vital work that is conducted by the charity.

"Saints Foundation works with 12,000 young people and adults of all ages every year, using the power and passion of sport to transform lives.

"The players and staff are now directing all their energy and focus towards the two games in Manchester this week."

Southampton’s next two games are all away to Manchester City; on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup and on Saturday in the Premier League.
