Alba Ridicules Barcelona’s Decision To Sell Suarez

Spain defender Jordi Alba has openly castigated Barcelona’s decision to sell striker Luis Suarez to rivals Atletico Madrid last summer.

Having spent six years at the Camp Nou, Suarez was ruthlessly shipped out of the club ahead of the 2020/2021 season, and the Rojiblancos pounced on it to sign the Uruguay international for just £5.5 million.

The former Liverpool man quickly established himself as the main man at the Wanda Metropolitano, scoring 23 goals in 32 games as he helped Atletico Madrid to their first La Liga title since the 2013/2014 season.

Many people including club captain Lionel Messi slammed the Barcelona board for how Suarez was treated and Alba, has now added his voice to slam the Catalans.

“It was a joke,” Alba told Cadena SER when asked about Barcelona’s decision to sell Suarez to Atletico Madrid

“He is someone who gave a lot to Barcelona, and they practically gave him away for nothing, above all to a direct rival in Atletico.

“And look, they went on to win the league with him. I didn’t like it. Aside from the friendship we have, where are you going to find a striker like him?

“It is difficult to find one. Yes, there are some very good players, but what Luis gave us…”
