Foden Tipped To Reach The Heights Of Messi And Ronaldo

England icon Michael Owen has backed Manchester City youngster Phil Foden to reach the heights of Lionel Messi and Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo.

Owen believes Foden could reach the level of the two of the best players of this generation if he keeps his head down and improve on his talent.

Foden is one of the highly rated youngsters in European football since he came through the ranks at the Etihad Stadium. At just the age of 21, the England international has won it all domestically with Manchester City.

He scored 16 goals and provided ten assists in all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side as the Citizens won the Premier League title and League Cup last season

Foden was named the winner of the 2020/2021 Professional Footballers Association(PFA) Young Player of the Year, beating the likes Trent Alexander-Arnold, Bukayo Saka, Mason Mount, Mason Greenwood and West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice to the prestigious award.

“We’ve got so many good kids, but he is the one,” Owen talked about Foden while speaking on talkSPORT on behalf of Booking.com. “I look at him and think he could be anything. World, world class.

“We’re talking the Messi’s and Ronaldo’s that are going to finish in the coming years and we’re all looking at the next generation of great players.

“I think from the England point of view he could be an absolute world-class player for years and years to come. I just hope he keeps developing in that way.”
