Declan Rice Defends England Style Of Play

England have been criticized for being too defensive but midfielder Declan Rice has refuted the claim, insisting the Three Lions are entertaining to watch.

Gareth Southgate’s men have started their World Cup qualifiers on a high after recording two victories in two games against San Marino and Albania, but the English coach’s tactics have been questioned.

As already expected, England emphatically put San Marino to the sword in a 5-0 win at Wembley on Thursday before beating Albania 2-0 on Sunday.

The media believes England’s play is unattractive as they are too cautious and are not close to hitting top gear with this summer’s rescheduled Euros getting closer.

Ahead of England’s game against Poland on Wednesday, Rice has brushed off those claims and insists his team-mates are very entertaining.

“I think in Gareth’s mind you can’t go too attacking” the West Ham midfielder said as per The Independent.

“You can’t go all out all the time, because the opposition have got quality and can hurt you.”

“There is a lot of talk around not needing two holding midfielders, why not play six attackers? I kind of understand why the manager sometimes doesn’t do that. There has to be that balance between the two.”

“We have control of the ball, we try to move the ball really quickly, try to shift the teams from side to side and then look for openings.

“I think we are a really entertaining team to watch. I think people complain all the time and say that we are not, but I think we have really improved as a group over the past couple of years.”
