Gasperini Accepts Atalanta Draw Against Udinese

Atalanta were held to a 1-1 draw by Udinese in Serie A at the Dacia Arena on Wednesday and head coach Gian Piero Gasperini has insisted his side must accept the stalemate as a good result.

The hosts took the lead in the first minute of the game through Roberto Pereyra but La Dea forced their way out to equalize on the cusp of halftime kind courtesy of Luis Muriel.

Gasperini’s men could not find the winning goal during the second half of the game as they settled for a second consecutive draw in Serie A.

Speaking to the media after the game, the former Genoa manager has posited that Atalanta should take the result in a good faith and move on.

“Conceding a goal after 25 seconds made it more complicated for a game that was already difficult anyway,” the Italian coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We had to play a really good first half to get it back on track. Considering the way it started, we have to accept this as a good result.

“We made up for an early error and spent almost the entire game in their half. Udinese kept slowing the play down, breaking it up, so there was very little football in the second period and that’s disappointing.”

A win in Udine could have sent Atalanta to third place in the Serie A table, but Gasperini chose to rotate his squad, a decision which was questioned by the media.

“Playing every three days, we have to rotate, and we’ve got talented players with many different characteristics,” he added.

“We’ll start thinking about Milan from this evening, it’s an important match for us, it ends the first half of the season and we are in a position to fight it out with the big clubs.

“We are in the Coppa Italia and the Champions League, we’re up against the Serie A leaders next and it’ll be a way of testing ourselves.
