Santo Rips Referee Lee Mason In A Post-Game Tirade After Wolves Defeat To Burnley

Wolverhampton Wanderers failed to build on their 2-1 win against Chelsea last week as they were beaten by a similar scoreline by Burnley at Turf Moor on Monday night and head coach Nuno Espírito Santo has launched a scathing attack on referee Lee Mason.

The Portuguese coach believes Mason lacks the acumen to officiate in the Premier League after he felt Wolves had been robbed of a win against the Clarets.

The visitors had only one bright moment in the game, thus when Fabio Silva scored on the 89th minute mark to cut the deficit following Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood giving Burnley a two-goal cushion.

Joao Moutinho was lucky not to have been red carded following a violent incident on Josh Brownhill, but Nuno slammed the performance of Mason.

“The referee does not have the quality for a Premier League game,” Nuno said to Sky Sports post match.

“This is a problem we know because we have had Lee Mason before.”

“It’s not about a crucial mistake or decision, it’s about how he handles the game.”

“The players get nervous, he whistles from the noises from the players. We are talking about the best competition, but he does not have the quality to whistle the game.”

Nuno continued in an unexpected outrage: “I just don’t want to see him more. I told him I hope he does not whistle a game of ours again.”

“He could not control the players, the players were constantly arguing.”

The defeat leaves Wolves in 11th place on the Premier League table with 20 points.
