Daniele Bonera Unhappy With AC Milan Draw Against Lille

AC Milan assistant head coach Daniele Bonera has admitted he is happy with his side’s performance but not the result following a 1-1 draw at Lille on Thursday night.

The Rossoneri failed to beat the French Ligue 1 side once again as both sides settled for a draw at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

After a goalless first half, AC Milan broke the deadlock right after the break when Samuel Castillejo swept home an Ante Rebic pass.

The visitors dominated the game and could have gotten the second goal but were pegged back midway through the game kind courtesy of Jonathan Bamba’s strike.

Bonera, who was on the touchline for the second successive time as Stefano Pioli and several other members of the staff are still self-isolating with COVID-19, was left fuming after the final whistle as he thought the Milanese-club’s stellar performance deserved a win.

“We put in a very good performance, it’s a pity we got distracted in that situation on their goal, because the team had controlled the game. It was a completely different Milan to the home match,” Bonera told Sky Sport Italia.

“We’re pleased with the team spirit, the way everyone is working together, the only disappointment tonight was the result.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and other first team players were out injured but a young blooded Rossoneri put up a fight against the Frenchmen.

“We’re pleased that the young lads are coming through, as at times you need a little of that wild young spirit. It’s a young Milan with some experienced figures like Simon Kjaer, who is giving a huge hand,” the Italian added.

“Naturally, Ibrahimovic is a very important player, but the team has always tried to play the same way, with or without Ibra.”

Sandro Tonali struggled in the first half, yet his through ball was influential in AC Milan’s first goal.

“It’s part of the growth process, we have faith in the lad and he was decisive today. We’re very pleased with him.”
