Klopp Admits Liverpool Deserved To Lose After Lethargic Display Against Atalanta

Liverpool were put to the sword 2-0 after a toothless display against Atalanta in the Champions League on Wednesday and head coach Jurgen Klopp has admitted his side deserved to be beaten.

The English side lost at home for the first time this season in an intense game at Anfield. Liverpool went the entire 90 minutes without mustering a shot on target.

After a goalless first half where both teams lacked the invention to draw first blood, Atalanta found their way through on the 60th minute mark through Josep Ilicic, before Germany international Robin Gosens doubled the visitors’ advantage four minutes later and that was enough to beat Klopp’s men.

“It was not a good game. From both teams, didn't create a lot, until they scored the goals,” Klopp said after the final whistle.

"A deserved defeat in a difficult game. The ref didn't whistle a lot and that makes it even more difficult, for both sides. It was unbelievably intense and you need some breaks.

"When the first half is gone, you usually settle but for some players who didn't play for a while it was very intense for them. We didn't find a way in the game.

"Easier to talk about a good game. We had moments but not real chances. It could happen to other teams. You ask us to go Saturday at 12:30, which is nearly a crime. That is nothing to do with the result, but congratulations to you.

"Thumbs up, no injuries and we go again."

Liverpool will look to atone for their sins when they make a trip to face Brighton in the Premier on Saturday.
