Emre Can Tests Positive For Coronavirus

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Emre Can has tested positive for Coronavirus, the club have announced.

Can is currently asymptomatic but will have to go into self-isolation for a seven-day period, as per Bundesliga protocols.

The former Liverpool midfielder will miss Saturday’s Revierderby against Schalke 04 and next week’s UEFA Champions League home game against Russian champions Zenit Saint Petersburg.

"Borussia Dortmund player Emre Can tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday. The Germany player, who was unable to take part in the Champions League trip to Rome [to face Lazio on Tuesday] is asymptomatic and in domestic isolation," a statement issued by the club read.

"After a thorough exchange with the Dortmund health department, the training session before the Revierderby on Saturday originally scheduled for 17:00 [local time on Friday] was postponed to 18:30. Nothing stands in the way of the match being played.

"Borussia Dortmund wishes Emre Can a continued symptom-free experience and a speedy recovery."

Can joined Dortmund initially on loan in the January transfer window but the move was later made permanent for £21m.

The Germany international made 15 appearances and scored two goals for Lucien Favre’s side last season and has already featured four times in the Bundesliga this term, scoring once.
