Kovacic Backs Abraham To Score More Goals

Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic has rallied support behind team-mate Tammy Abraham to score more goals in the new Premier League season.

After being criticised for missing a penalty that saw Chelsea miss out on the UEFA Super Cup title to Liverpool, the 21-year old bulged the net twice to help the side record their first win of the season as they defeated Norwich City 3-2 at Carrow Road on Saturday.

"I have a good connection and understanding with Tammy and I think that comes naturally. He’s a great talent and he is still young, so he can improve a lot.

"I like his movement and he wants to make the runs that I want to play the passes for. He is working hard and everyone was so happy to see him score his goals. The whole team is working hard together, we have a great connection and I think we can only improve and get better as time goes on.

"Every game and every goal is important and this will be great for Tammy to become more confident. He’s a fantastic striker, he is learning all the time and he will score more goals this season for sure."

Spending a season-long loan at Chelsea last term from Real Madrid, Kovacic made his stay at the Stamford Bridge permanent in the summer.

As an assist provider for Abraham’s second goal in their first win, Kovacic is expected to shine when Chelsea host Sheffield United for their second home game on August 31.
