Joelinton Goal Gives Newcastle First Win Against Spurs

Newcastle United’s record summer signing Joelinton scored the only goal of the game as the Magpies secured their first win of the season with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspurs in the Premier League on Sunday.

On the back of their draw with Manchester City last weekend, Tottenham were expected to secure all three points but it was Steve Bruce’s men who came away with a priceless victory this time.

After back-to-back defeats to Arsenal and Norwich City, Newcastle finally have something to smile about leaving Watford as the only pointless side after three round of matches.

Tottenham drop down to seventh place on four points while Newcastle are in 19th position on three.

Hugo Lloris was called into action in the 24th minute to tip over Sean Longstaff’s fierce strike after the young Englishman was slipped in on the right.

Two minutes later the visitors went ahead through summer signing Joelington, who beautifully controlled substitute Christian Atsu’s lofted pass before slotting past Lloris in the Tottenham goal.

Son-Heung Min was making his first Premier League appearance of the season following a three-game ban, and the South Korean made his presence felt when he got on the end of Kyle Walker-Peters’ pass in the box before goalkeeper Martin Dubravka repelled his effort with a smart save in the 34th minute.

After the break, the visitors continued to frustrate the hosts with resolute defending, restricting them to half chances to pick up their first points of the season.
