Renato Sanches Voices Frustration At Bit-Part Bayern Role

Bayern Munich’s Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches could not hide his frustration after he was once again left on the bench for Friday’s Bundesliga opener against Hertha Berlin.

Sanches has seen his development stall at the German champions ever since he joined them from Portuguese side Benfica on the back of some impressive performances for his country at EURO 2016.

The 21-year-old has unsuccessfully tried to engineer a move away from the Allianz Arena in search of regular first team football elsewhere although with the European transfer window closing on September 2, he could still have his wish fulfilled.

Sanches started from the bench as Bayern Munich stuttered to a 2-2 draw at home to Hertha Berlin on Friday, and was only introduced with five minutes to go as a replacement for Thomas Muller.

Sanches made his feelings known after the game, indicating that five minutes was not enough for him to show his real quality.

"Of course I'm disappointed, it's the second time the club has not let me go," Sanches said.

"Five minutes is not enough for me."

Asked about Sanches' comments, Bayern head coach Niko Kovac added: "I cannot say anything about that, I did not speak to him."

Sanches’ below-par stay in Germany saw him loaned out to Swansea City for the 2017/2018 campaign but his time in Wales was equally disappointing as he saw his season curtailed by injury in the second half of the campaign.
