Klopp Hails Werner And Havertz As Great Players

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has labeled Kai Havertz and RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner as great players after purportedly missing out on the opportunity to sign the duo this summer.

Werner was heavy linked with a move to Anfield but Chelsea are now in contention to sign the 24-year-old after agreeing a deal in principle with the German – although RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has denied any official approach from the West Londoners.

Havertz on the other hand was on the Reds’ radar but reports in Germany have opined that the youngster is on his way to another Bundesliga side Bayern Munich.

Klopp, who aired his admiration for both of his compatriots during an interview with Sky Germany, explained that the negative effect of the coronavirus pandemic dented his side’s chances of landing two of the most coveted players in Europe.

"There are a lot of good players on this planet," the former Borussia Dortmund boss said. "Timo Werner is a great player, Kai Havertz is a great player.”

"Right time, opportunity - everything has to come together. Six, seven weeks ago, we didn't know if we could play again this year.”

“If we hadn't played the second half of the season, we would have thought, 'OK, when can you really play football again?' And now it starts right away.”

"We act as if everything is already settled. It's not settled. We use this little loophole we've been left to play football again.”

“Everything else we have to see the moment it happens. We can't pretend now that everything's going to be fine in the future."

Both Werner and Havertz are having a season of their lives as they have scored 25 and 11 goals respectively in Bundesliga.
