‘A Footballer Can Live A Year Without Wages’- Tevez Urges Players To Do More In Covid-19 Fight

Carlos Tevez says elite footballers can survive up to a year without salaries, urging them to help out during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Tevez currently plies his trade with Boca Juniors in his native Argentina, where like most parts in the world, football has ground to a halt because of Covid-19.

As part of cost cutting measures, some clubs have started initiating salary reductions with their players in order save money in these trying times.

The likes of Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have all reduced the salaries of their players.

Individual players like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski and Joshua Kimmich have also gone the extra mile by making donations to organisations fighting to halt the spread of the virus.

Former Manchester City and Manchester United striker Tevez believes footballers are in a privileged profession and can do more by waiving their salaries.

"A footballer can live six months or a year without receiving [wages]," Tevez said on America TV in Argentina.

"We are not in the same despair as those who live with kids every day, who have to leave their house at six in the morning and return at seven in the evening to feed the family.

"We are not an example in this case; yes in other things. We have to be there and help. It is easy for me to speak from home, knowing that I have food for my children.

"But desperate people, who cannot move and cannot leave the house. That is worrying."
